Career in Textile Engineering

TEXTILE:
The term 'textile' is from Latin verb “texere” means – to weave. According to the definition “textile” is applied any manufacture based on the conversion of fiber or filament into yarn and yarn into fabric. These are then dyed or printed, fabricated into clothes by assembling fabrics characterized by flexibility and fineness. Fabric refers to any material made through weaving, knitting, spreading, crocheting, or bonding that may be used in production of further garments or cloth.

Now a days textiles are everywhere from hat to socks, bed sheets to carpeting, draperies to sanitary napkin, shoes, medical and healthcare , agriculture, horticulture , suitcase to automobile coating, , tents and nets, from umbrella to parachutes, lightweight fibers for airplane wings etc.  Textiles even make it into space as the lining of space shuttle cargo holds, shuttle space suit used by astronauts.

Textile Engineering:
Textile Engineering is the science that deals with all activities and methods which are involved in the process of textile manufacturing.
It combines the principles, laws, and scientific techniques of engineering with specific knowledge of textile equipment and processes utilized for development and manufacturing the textile products. This field of engineering draws inputs from various other branches of engineering like material, chemical, instrumentation, computer, structural, electronic and mechanical engineering. To produce desired textile products it also needs to make interaction of materials with machines and man, safety and health, energy conservation, and waste and pollution control. There is wide scope for research in this area as the industry demands need to improve currently available products and develop new ones.

What Do The Textile Engineers Do?
Mainly textile engineers do design, develop and maintain the processes, equipment and procedures that create textile products. Beside that they also involve in production control and supervision, product development, quality control, research and development, technical sales and services, and corporate management in this field to gain the goal of textile industry.

Key Features of Textile Engineers:
Engineers need to be creative, inquisitive, analytical and detail-oriented. They should communicate well and be able to work as part of a team. Engineers should expect technological change to alter the nature of their work many times throughout a career. The most successful are willing to keep pace with these changes.

How To Become A Textile Engineer?
A textile engineer who works in the textile industry or in textile production has to undergo a standard degree program. In Bangladesh after S.S.C. one can attend 4 years diploma program in Technical Institutes. After H.S.C. one can attend B.Sc. in Textile Engineering or Textile Management, Fashion & Design or Merchandising program in Textile or Fashion College, Institute or University. After completing these degrees they can also attend M. Sc. in Textile Engineering, MBA in Textile Management and Business, MBA in Textiles, MBA in Merchandising.
These standard degree includes,
